The supernatural slasher is violent but the old school practical make-up effects are pedestrian at best with Gabriel THE OUTING Bartalos & Patricia OMEN IV: THE AWAKENING Murray sharing the duties under the the direction of Brian MEGIDDO: THE OMEGA CODE 2 Trenchard-Smith. The plot which hinges on a wish-granting gold coin was scripted by David Dubos who also wrote the obscure and forgotten anthology FUTURE SHOCK. Of the handful of barely recognizable actors in the cast (Marchelo TREMORS 2: AFTERSHOCKS Tubert, Tom HELLRAISER: BLOODLINES Dugay, Michael THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN RIDE Callen, etc) veteran scream queen Caroline STEPFATHER 2: MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY Williams comes across best with the material which is never really especially clever or scary. Neither are any good but at least Gatins could find work afterwards. Lee MAGIC ISLAND Armstrong plays the unlucky gal who's caught the repulsive monster's eye opposite scant leading man John FRED 2: NIGHT OF THE LIVING FRED Gatins. When a medallion worn by the idol is detached Davis returns to maniacal life determined to double the body-count of the 1st film while in search of a bride. The Irish monster with a fake accent bigger than he is arrives in a Las Vegas pawn shop in the form of a gold statuette.
Followed by the direct-to-video hit LEPRECHAUN 3.Ĭackling, prancing Warwick HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 Davis is back as the psychotic LEPRECHAUN who somehow survived being blown to bits at the end of LEPRECHAUN 2 and is resurrected for LEPRECHAUN 3: IN VEGAS via a plot twist swiped from the tv movie classic TRILOGY OF TERROR. The bloodshed and gore (slightly more of it than the 1st) was courtesy of Gabrielle THE UNBORN II Bartalos and Todd HOWLING VI: THE FREAKS Masters. A brief cameo from Kimmy TWIN PEAKS Robertson & Clint 3 FROM HELL Howard is just about the only bright spot in this under-achiever which would be the last in the franchise to receive a theatrical release until the 2014 flop LEPRECHAUN ORIGINS. Sandy THE MUNSTERS SCARY LITTLE CHRISTMAS Baron co-stars as the sleazy proprietor of a celebrity tour service operating out of L.A.
She already has a limo-driving boyfriend Charlie THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES Heath. LEPRECHAUN 2 finds the creature awakened from a 1000 year slumber and on the prowl for a bride played by Shevonne TAMMY & THE T-REX Durkin. Rodman THE UNBORN Flender directed this sub-par slasher which was peppered with low-brow gags fueled by Warwick's chewing the scenery.
Warwick MALIFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL Davis returned for this soft reboot of the unexpectedly durable franchise which concerns the murderous activities of a LEPRECHAUN. Based on a 1980s horror comic book explaining how the LEPRECHAUN came to be captured by a man named O'Grady which is touched on in the prologue. Handsome Ken SUPER FORCE Olandt, Robert SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK Gorman & Mark PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURES Holton play a trio of painters who help their friend save the farm. Slasher fans/gorehounds won't find much to love with the sparse bodycount or the relatively bloodless presentation of those crimes. The violence doesn't play well with the lame gags on prominant display dimishing what little weight this carried as a horror pic. Gabriel Bartalos who created 1992s MUNCHIE designed LERPRECAUN and the low-end gore. Dwarf Warwick WILLOW Davis plays the gold-hoarding demon with a shoe fetish for cheap laughs under pounds of repulsive make up. She radiates charisma as a spoiled city girl who finds life in the country even more unbearable when the LEPRECHAUN locked in her farm's basement escapes and goes on a killing spree. The finished film sat on the shelf for 2 years before finding a renewed lease on life on the video rental market due to the casting of a then-unknown Jennifer Aniston who shot to superstardom immediately after as Rachel on FRIENDS. Also hits like CRITTERS and CHILD'S PLAY made it an attractive low budget slasher for fledgling studio Trimark to pursue. LEPRECHAUN was the brainchild of Mark RUMPELSTILTSKIN Jones who borrowed as much from Freddy Krueger movies & Bugs Bunny cartoons as Irish lore.
